It appears that there is a known problem with one A/C compressor part number used on some Subarus in model years 2014 - 2016. For a couple weeks I had been hearing a “moaning” whenever the compressor’s clutch engaged (rather than just the usual “Click--Whirr”. I was thinking it was a rear wheel bearing, and even bought a new bearing, but now I'm not sure. I can't find the source of the noise.

Jan 4, 2020 · On a couple of occasions, I've gone into the garage several hours after I parked my 2019 CrossTrek 2.0 Premium. There is a clear whirring sound coming from somewhere under the car, near the rear wheels. Of course I checked to make sure the car was completely off. And a few hours later, the sound was gone. It's not the engine; it's much quieter.
