Rents on places at the moment are about $1,200-$1,800 for a one bedroom. Electric is about $100 if you don't have A/C and are very frugal about it. If the roads are dry, all the North Shore beaches can be accessed with a non-4WD. You'll just be limited in being able to use some of the side of the road parking where the drop offs can be significant.
