I average about 48mpg driving normally. If I drive for mileage I can get about 53-55. Bout 8mpg higher than my gf's '13 non tuned jetta dsg. If you live in a free state you should dpf/egr delete and get the car tuned, instead of pouring soot into the intake and good diesel into that POS particulate filter.3mpg is a bit low.
