Reno is on the other side of the mountain and also snows some and has a city that is mostly based on casinos and suburbia. But at Heavenly you can see the lake and ski in 2 states in one morning. Whichever resort you pick be ready for insane crowds and the potential for crazy weather. Homewood has the best lake views and is a good small mountain. There are a few very small non-resort ski areas around Tahoe that would be great for beginners.

I’d say stick to northstar, kirkwood, homewood, and heavenly. Sierra is closed. Boreal is off the 80 but if you want a little more of a challenge you may get bored of it. Yes like others are saying, weekends can be a lot but not terrible. Hit kirkwood avoid heavenly.
