Thanks in advance- ugkbunb I am leaning towards the Grip N Stocks, I imagine after buying clear/poly coat, wax coat, stain, oil, 150, 180, 240 grit sandpaper (possible even wet sand paper) that the prices will just about equal out.

For the bot - Practically new Saiga-12 I purchased from a former coworker who planned to use it for skeet shooting but never got started. Didn’t have the original box, but I got the owners manual, inspection certificate, and the cleaning kit in the little metal pill box.With the bullet guide, Tapco G2 FCG and the Tapco furniture, a guy can spend less than $200 (actually $150 if he modifies the factory handguard) and convert a $400 Saiga (weapon, shipping, dealer fees and taxes). SO for $550 or 600, you can have a real Russian AK.
This is a surplus Romanian rpk lower handguard (HG) I used a dremel tool with a sanding drum to enlarge the opening at the receiver end. I tapered the opening to about 3/4 of the way down the HG towards the muzzle end of the HG. Here is a table of the before and after measurements of the wood HG compared to the poly HG.

The forend needs some material hogged out and re-stained, as well as a new handguard screw hole and slot carved into the wood. The stock will fit as well, but needs a little bit of material rasped off at the front and bottom of it to accommodate the wishbone linkage in an unconverted S-12.
