Ninjatrader bought out tradovate and I think eventually tradovate will disappear. Tradovate has a decent web version, so you can use it on a MacBook easily.

Dip your toes with tradovate as it offers a really low barrier to entry and has a lot of features for being browser based. You can move into a paid platform after you've developed and refined a winning strategy. This is the route I took and currently on ninjatrader with lifetime for lower commissions.
