In some cases it is also observed that the engine becomes hot even after just ten minutes of running. There are additional problems like excessive vibrating of the outboard engine and the sudden collapsing of the engine. It is a waste of money and time to solve these problems. The 9.9 are most expensive because a lot of lakes have a less than 10 HP restriction. As far as parts: New ones may be difficult to find but there is a thriving market in used. As to the economics of repairing that Force versus buying a running 15 hp , in my area they generally go for ~ $700 - $900 , depending on brand and year .

The impeller fins are straight when new, but they take a "set" from being bent over in the waterpump housing over time, normal, but not good. The impeller should be replaced every 2 years, or if you don't know it's age.

Well, I went looking for a parts motor, and found a 1989 Force 15 nearly identical to the Gamefisher 15. The thing pulled a 14' fiberglass skiff with two onboard at a good clip, (I'd guess about 18 mph or so with two big guys onboard). I still have a Gamefisher/Tanaka 3HP and it's a good little motor. I'm guessing that Tanaka made the entire line for Gamefisher, but my 3HP is for sure a Tanaka.

I just yardsale-bought a 1994 Gamefisher 15hp outboard model # 225.581506 for $100! It appears lightly used. I tested it in a barrel for 1/2 min, it starts right up on the first pull, but the telltale was weak/sputtering. I though (and maybe did) have a problem with the float sticking. I took the bottom bowl portion of the carburator off and gave it a throurough cleaning. It really didn't need it however as it was immaculate.Re: Gamefisher 15hp - 1989 I would see if you can find a manual for them as this will give you the compression they should be, if they have been sitting for ages and hardly started, it could be rings sticking. The linkage connection bolt wasn't tight so when I would shift in forward it would slip. Same with reverse, and that's why It would either freeze in forward, or neutral and wouldn't shift out of it. I adjusted it, and tightened it, and it works fine now.
