Ram 2500 stuck in 4th gear.

Ive had a similar problem in a chevy. In my instance the shifter actually jumped out of the grooves between the shift forks. You can take the console off around the shifter and pull the boot up and take the four bolts loose that hold the shifter to the tranny. when you pull up the shifter you will see the grooves that the shifter is supposed to go in.Pulled over and truck went into 1st gear. Pulled out and would not shift out of 1st. Limped back to the house about 7 miles in 1st. Got to the driveway and put in reverse and it went into reverse a little harsh. while you have it down go ahead and check the tower seals. the solonoid pack bolts to the valve body. just unbolt it and bolt in the new one, the new one may not come with the same color connector, will be white or grey, but no worries here. bolt it all back up, clear your codes and drive. the 4 is the limp mode.

Normal position is with the piston up. Pushing the button will push the piston down, or it is supposed to go down when the brake pedal is pushed and truck is running. The arm has two pins holding it, one on either side, you can use a small screwdriver and pop it out. Once out, the piston can pull out.
