I found a lot more amethyst on the lower floors than the later floors. Like 10-40ish. Bombs on the top levels of the mines for the sake of ease and not dealing with monsters. If you cannot afford bombs, then hit the top floors of the mines, get as many of the boulders as you can, each of those drop 10 stone, so regardless of what level your pick is, they are the most bang for your buck. Level 46 always seemed to have at least 4 bats. I usually would only get to 56 or so because I ran out of time as I would go later in the day. You might try hitting 35, 45, 55, 65 and 75 doing an elevator run. I do that sometimes when looking for iron.
