Complete a shell, grab a primer, drop it in, grab a hull and take off. The Mec 600 is a very simple machine, I'd keep it that way.

The reason for the cracked or tore hulls is because of the gun you are shooting. A .410 shotgun that has a very wide open chamber or very tight chamber will cause the shell to expand or shrink and it will burn the pedals/crimp at the end of the shell. The final crimp station is also updated but again, not significantly better than the old version. About the only thing on the new versin 600 Jr. that is nice is the pre crimper, as it changes out from 6 to 8 in only a couple seconds.

I have an old (1964) Mec 600 jr that I converted to 2 1/2" 410 and a new 600 jr MK5 for 3" 410. I have loaded a lot of rounds never needed the stripper. My hulls don't hang up at the reprime station. YMMV.

Bumping up your payload with the same powder charge might be asking for trouble. It doesn't take much to exceed shotgun pressure limits of 11,500 psi for 12 gauge. If the load isn't a "book" load, don't shoot it. Might switch to a slower powder with more bulk. 17 grains of powder doesn't take up much space in the case.
