This pulls the needle stop out of the bale case if it is extended. The needle stop is what protects the needles in the event of a failure or occasional occurring anomaly, causing the baler to in effect come out of time. The stop extends into the path of the plunger, stopping the plunger before it contacts the needles.

Now when they get a little worn, twine will be caught between the sides of the roller and needle and cause you lots of stress!
