this video is for entertainment purposes only. it is not a tutorialI went to one of the local Honda dealers and the only ones they had in stock were the ones for the differential. The guy at the parts counter said they didn't keep many in stock because the non-oil-drain-plug washers don't get deformed like the one for the oil pan. So I just ended up reusing the ones for the transmission and transfer case.Jan 31, 2022 · I'm using O'Reilly's MasterPro brand 75w-90 full synthetic GL-5 gear oil in the transfer case of a 2017 Honda Pilot Elite AWD with ZF 9-speed. It's close enough to spec and having new fluid in there is better than old Honda HGO-1 fluid. Drain and fill is less than half a bottle so it's cheap and easy to change every 3 years. It is approx $200 for the transfer fluid change and $200 for the rear diff fluid change. Does this sound about right? Maybe for the rear diff if they need to drop the spare like previous generations and the fluid is more expensive. The Transfer case takes 10 mins to do and uses gear oil, nothing special.

A 3/8" square drive long handle breaker bar will fit in both the drain and refill plugs. I use a 1/2" breaker bar fitted with a 1/2" to 3/8" socket adapter. Remember to remove the fill plug first. That way, if you can't remove that plug, you haven't drained the transfer case, with no way to replace the case fluid.Full synthetic transmission fluid is more expensive, but it also lasts longer, lubricates better, and is more effective in combatting heat and friction. However, full synthetic may …1 post · Joined 2021. #5 · Sep 6, 2021. One of the seals on the transfer case of my 2020 Pilot EX was leaking at around 2,000 miles as well. It was leaking some clear fluid that I could not pinpoint. Apparently the t-case has its own fluid separate from the transmission. I had to take it the dealer twice before they fixed it.

The Pilot used to take VTM-4 fluid, back when the AWD system was called VTM-4 and used a slightly different technology in the rear differential. I think that applies to Gen 1 and Gen 2 (through 2015). The Gen 3 Pilots with the iVTM-4 system (2016 and up) use Dual Pump System Fluid (or DPSF) in the rear differential housing.

It divides power between the front and rear wheels of a 4WD or AWD. First, transfer case fluid coats the internal layer and provides a protective layer. This protective layer decreases friction produced by movement and physical contact. Eventually, enough lubricating draws heat away from the gears and preserves the life and performance of the car.The front differential is part of the transmission and is lubricated by ATF (Honda DW-1), so if you replace your ATF, you will take care of this. There is a transfer case attached to the transmission (it's the thing the rear driveshaft comes out of). This uses 75W synthetic gear oil (Honda HGO-1, I think).I went to one of the local Honda dealers and the only ones they had in stock were the ones for the differential.
