The years within a program there's some wiggle room, but I wouldn't call you a college freshman if you hadn't yet started college either. But I don't particularly care what your SDN status says. I've got a couple suggestions. My mom gave me a book a couple years ago called The Horse Doctor Is In by Brent Kelley, DVM. He presents horse health care using stories from his time as an equine vet in Kentucky. Also, one of my all time favorite books is Most of My Patients Are Animals by Robert M. Miller, DVM.

Vet schools look at number of hours of experience, but they also consider variety of experience. Time spent in several different areas of the field is equally important to how long you’ve spent exposed to the vet industry.
