John deere 318 no spark.
I have a 1983 Deere 318 (Ser #229703) that has no spark. It has new plugs, wires, points, condenser, and coil, as well as a new ignition switch (all just done by previous owner). Seat and neutral safety switches have been bypassed, and I can turn the key and it turns over with zero issues.

Now you are set. Just a quick ground and the coil will fire if it don't the coil may be the problem; If it fires I would check the ignition switch. The Onan is one of the more simple streight forword engines.Leave the capasitor hooked up To the neg side. Pull a plug wire off the plug connect it to a loose grounded spark plug; So you can see the spark . now ground the neg, side of the coil, Just touch it quickly to ground it will fire . if it don't the coil is bad; The next step; Go to EBAY Click on Harley DAvidson; Coil.Serial number of the tractor is C314L 19146LM. Took the points off and cleaned them. They were a little pitted so I filed them down to take the pitting out. Regapped them a little under .020". Was able to get a little spark when touching a screwdriver across the points. Tried a new spark plug but still no spark.

Pulling both plugs out of the engine allows the starter to crank it faster as well, you should see spark under those conditions. Let us know what you find. On the 316, you may have a blown F2 fuse keeping the PTO from working so check that... Ok so I have an Onan in my 318 a P218 (I think no markings) that is not getting spark. I crank and crank but nothing even with starter fluid. It was running and I was mowing then it lost power like it was on one cyl then came back I though it was fuel related. but no. It did that 3 times.

The later pics confirmed yours as a 1983 318 B43G machine. So, I have a 1986 B43G configured the same (with the newer replacement coil and external condenser).
