14. This past spring, I took the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) exam. 7 weeks later, I received my results. Thankfully, I passed. This was not entirely a surprise, as the pass rate for first-time test takers was 88%. But it definitely requires some studying.

Passed- 420s. Not the best test taker, below average on all of my board exams thus far and poor ITE scores. Had to squeeze in studying during fellowship. I did MKSAP x 2, half of UWORLD and got through about 3/4 of board basics. Felt somewhat decent coming out of the exam, relieved to be done.

Well usually UpToDate is consistent with uworld but it’s concerning that the gold standard (MKSAP) deviates from what’s online. Makes me nervous to think what they will test. Unless something has changed, the uWorld question bank was not very similar to ABIM question style and the material was too nitpicky for as broad an exam as the ABIM is. You’re still a bit early to start studying in earnest though.

When studying for my boards a couple years ago I did both the mksap and UWorld question banks. MKSAP tested on so much useless knowledge that was way beyond the scope of IM (sooo much detailed chemo regimens). UWorld on the other hand was very high yield. I noticed many questions on the ABIM that were almost word for word the same.
