But some were rated higher depending on it's application. 1989 was not a high horsepower maybe 230 or torque motor if I recall correctly. You could just have that trans freshened up to handle new motor.Early 502's (Mark IV and Gen V's) were rated at 425 at the flywheel and 390 at the prop (carb). True a stock 700 or 4l60 can handle 400-450 and @400 at the track. There's pro/cons to both. The 200 is an easier swap but it also has better gear ratios than the 700.
