When the W12 was being produced, the other model they had was a fixed sight service revolver called the D11. The "D" & "W" most likely were for Dan Wesson.

Most likely, your serial number will have a K in it, at the fourth position (like 130Kxxx). If it is a later Model 19-5 (post 1983) it will have three letters and four numeric digits. Jim, I think your gun dates from 1979 or early 1980. Monson was made up until 1991 but the changed the serial number format in 1986.
